MCG was the first sports field in the world to have a full StrathAyr System back in 1991. To this day, StrathAyr still move cricket wickets for the MCG using StrathAyr specialised technology.
The StrathAyr “Drop-In” Portable Cricket Wicket technology enables cricket wickets to be fully prepared off the ground, transported into position and used immediately.
Portable wickets solve the problem of having cricket pitches on football and rugby fields and enables wickets to be produced in a controlled environment away from field traffic.
The cricket wickets are transported in one slab (25m long, 3m wide, 200mm deep). The wickets are generally moved with the StrathAyr TransportAyr, a purpose built low floatation machine, which minimizes damage to the outfield. Where a TransportAyr is not practical, a crane and a lifting frame may be utilized.
StrathAyr design, manufacture and supply TransportAyr machines to enable installation and removal of “drop-in” wickets. StrathAyr also proudly provide specialist teams to perform TransportAyr work on a contract basis.

TRANSPORTAYR
The TransportAyr system is the ultimate tool that has been utilized around the world, from Australia to New Zealand and the UK. This custom designed StrathAyr equipment ensures a sporting field is capable of hosting a range of sports, from rugby to AFL, soccer, cricket and more.
The TransportAyr is self-propelled and can be extended and contracted under its own power. It has full hydraulic motor steering and the ability to load removable wickets/cricket pitches on extendable trailers. It has high torque and high speed drive motors to get the job done effectively and efficiently.
StrathAyr’s interest in resolving the problems associated with the incompatibility of cricket and football sharing a ground was sparked by the advent of World Series Cricket. The company’s first major venue turfing contract resulted from damage caused to the outfield of Waverley Park, Melbourne, by the movement of the concrete tub wickets to the centre of the ground. This world series innovation inspired StrathAyr’s interest and future developments.
