TifTuf Bermuda grass is one of the most popular varieties of turf that we provide here at StrathAyr. It’s a fantastic option for anyone looking for a drought tolerant, wear tolerant, shade tolerant lawn that looks beautiful. Below are some key tips to keep it looking tiptop.
Sunlight
TifTuf turf is shade tolerant, but to keep it looking its best, we recommend between four to 12 hours of sunshine a day for happy, gorgeous grass. Your turf is now bound to deliver the result of best lawn in the street.
Mowing
While less mowing is needed compared to other fine leaf grass varieties, we recommend a weekly mow during growing season to keep your TifTuf lawn in best shape. As always, maintain a longer length for the cooler months.
Watering
TifTuf grass uses up to 38% less water than many other common lawn varieties, making it a great choice in terms of sustainability and required maintenance. Heavier soaking is needed, however, after you initially lay the turf down, to encourage a deep root structure.
Fertilising
Fertilise your TifTuf grass approximately 3 times a year. There is a large range of fertilisers available, such as organics, NPK-based, natural and liquid fertilisers to provide your lawn all the vital nutrients to encourage healthy, green growth.
Weeding and Dethatching
Once established, your TifTuf lawn will have a dense matt that blocks any weeds from germinating. The most stubborn weeds are more likely to pop up during autumn and winter when your lawn is dormant. If you take care of them quickly, there’s no need to worry. If you find your lawn becoming spongy and thick and aren’t happy with the feel, dethatching in late spring is the best way to achieve a softer, stronger, healthier lawn.
Pest Control
TifTuf turf is a hardy lawn that is less prone to suffering from pest damage. One common lawn grub to keep an eye out for is army worm. These little green caterpillars come out at night and eat the leaves of your lawn, causing brown patchy sections. They target healthy lawns and are active from December to May. If you notice signs of army worms, simply treat the grass immediately with Grub Guard to control any infestations. Your self-repairing TifTuf turf will bounce back quickly from any pest damage afterwards.
